General Policies on Assignments, Attendance, Exams and Grading

Any assignment not submitted when due will receive a zero grade.

No make-up exams will be given unless arrangements have been made in advance of the exam date.

No exceptions will be made to these policies except as provided for by University guidelines.  Please make all appeals and supply evidence, such as a written doctor's excuse or independent corroboration, to the appropriate Dean.

No work of any sort will be received later than the start of the final exam.

Within two weeks of being returned to the student, any written assignment may be revised and resubmitted for a replacement grade. If the second grade is better, the average of the two grades will be recorded in place of the first grade; if it is worse, the first grade will stand.

Roll will be taken in every class, and absences noted and recorded. Attendance and participation grades will be reduced in proportion to classes you are absent. E.g., if you miss one tenth of the class sessions, your attendance grade will be 90% of the maximum.  Attendance at two-thirds of the class sessions is necessary to pass the course; absence above this amount cannot be accommodated for any reason.

Any student may do extra work for extra credit, subject to the following policies: All extra credit projects must have the prior approval of the instructor. Total extra credit points earned may not exceed 10% of the possible total points for the class.

At the end of the semester, the percentage of the total possible points that you have obtained will be converted to a letter grade and reported to the Registrar according to the following formula:

A+ 97-100
A 93-96
A- 90-92
B+ 87-89
B 83-86
B- 80-82
C+ 77-79
C 73-76
C- 70-72
