The Roman columns on the second and third floors may be part of the marble that Charlemagne imported from Italy.  The candelabra was presented to the Cathedral by the Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa ca. 1165-1184.  It represents the city of Jerusalem, earthly and heavenly.
