Advice for becoming a part of the profession:
- Subscribe to the SLIS Student Listserv
-this will get you plugged into all the latest news from the school.
- Start browsing job ads. Take note of what libraries are asking for in the ads you find interesting. Think about what courses will help prepare you for a job you really want. Online postings are available at:
- Talk with people within the field. They are generally more than happy to talk with students who show a genuine interest in their job and the steps that took to get there:
- People holding jobs you'd like to have
- other members of the faculty
- folks that you meet at professional meetings, etc.
