The distinctive production of Psycho
Released by Paramount under Hitchcock's long-term contract with that studio.
Produced by Shamley, Hitchcock's own production company, with Hitchcock ultimately owning the movie outright. (This arrangement made him rich.)

Filmed at Universal Studios, owned by MCA, Hitchcock's agents, and the home of the Alfred Hitchcock Presents television series.

To save money and to get the movie's distinctive dingy visual style, Hitchcock used the film crew from his television show. Psycho is thus the only Hitchcock movie between Strangers on a Train and Marnie that was not shot by Hitchcock's longtime director of photography, Robert Burks.
