Math Placement at CUA
How to get set-up on BlackBoard in order to take the online test
BlackBoard 8 is academic software used by many faculty at CUA
to provide web sites for their courses. We use this system to administer
the online version of the math placement test.
You may find it helpful to print this page first. Here is a pdf version of this page.
To take the online test, you must first "enroll" in it in BlackBoard. Step by step...
-
Use any web browser and go to http://bb8.cua.edu. Click the
[Log in] button and log in using your CUA username and network password. (Note: Your Cardinal
Station password, if it is different, will not work).
-
After you log in, you will see three tabs at the top left of the
window: CUA, Courses and Library. Click the Courses tab.
-
In the Courses window ...
Under the title Course List
you will probably see the message "You are not enrolled in any
courses."
Type math in the Course search box and click the
[Go!] button.
-
In the Browse course catalog window ...
You will probably see
several results in the "search results" list. Look for the course name
Math Placement 2009-2010 and instructor name Paul Glenn.
At the far right of that line, find and click the [Enroll]
button.
-
In the Self Enrollment window ...
Type the code word
greenradio into the access code box in the middle of the screen,
then click the [Submit] button at the bottom right. You should
then get a message that you have sucessfully enrolled. Click the
[OK] button at the far right.
-
You'll now be at the front page of the math placement material on
BlackBoard.
It says "Read this first". (Do that sometime before you actually take the test).
-
There are a few more steps.
Find and click the blue [Tools] button along the left edge of
the window.
-
In the Tools window ...
Look for the link called Personal
information and click it. [Feel free, by the way to explore all the
other tools ... some other time]
-
In the Personal information window ... Click the Edit
personal information link.
-
This is important. Look at the five text boxes for your
personal information.
-
Make sure your name boxes have your name exactly as your
official CUA records will show it. For example, don't use nicknames
here.
-
Put your current email (where I could reach you now, if necessary)
in the email address box. This need not be your CUA email address.
-
Put your 7-digit CUA ID number in the Student ID box.
Scroll down to the bottom of the window and click the [Submit] button.
Now you're done.
Whenever you need to come back to the math placement test site on
BlackBoard, just login to BlackBoard, then look for the Math Placement
link in your list of courses, and click that. You will then be back at
the "Read this first" page again.
Notes: Concerning the personal information you checked and
changed: you can revise this information at any time later. Also, as far
as math placement goes, you need not supply any information under the
heading "Other information".
You should know that if you enroll in this or other BlackBoard-based web
sites for courses, the instructor will be able to see the information
you put here.
