Paper #1: Book Review due in class March 2nd
Select any book listed on the syllabus bibliography and prepare a 4-5 pp. review. Think of this as an exercise in seeing-what-else-is-out-there on our subject, the social life of paper. How is your book about paper? What is it about besides paper? And how does the author relate these subjects to one another? Write for an intelligent, general audience that has not read the book in question.
Paper #2 Book Proposal due in class April 6
This is your chance to describe the social life of paper as the subject of a book the class is writing. (Think of the book as a companion to The Pencil, only better.) Prepare a table of contents and then write 4-5 pp. arguing for the contents and organization you have proposed. In the previous assignment you described someone else's book about paper, what would yours look like?
Final Project: The Social Life of Paper due in Reading Period, details TBA
Class members will collaborate in the design of final projects during the final weeks of the semester. Each student should expect to produce approximately 15 pp. of original work as a contribution to the whole.
