Reading Questions

On each of the following dates, prepare a half-page answer based on readings to the following questions. Give page numbers from the book:

January 14 -- Make a list of devices that Malinowski uses to let the reader imagine that she or he "is there" in the Trobriands. List page numbers of pages on which these devices appear.

January 23 -- List specific examples from your own experience of each of the kinds of gifts, payments, and transactions, and the social categories between which these exchanges take place, as Malinowski describes them in Chapter 6.

January 28 -- According to Sahlins, what kind of exchange is each of the examples that you listed above?
